Catterina Fontana of Blatha an Oir asked if I would illuminate a couple of poems that she had written for June Faire vigilants, so I did. I’m always honored to do custom work, so this was a treat. I only have bad cell phone photos, however.

This poem was for Ermenrich Guotmann, also known as Morgan Guotmann, Morgan van Daemerung. I really have not done a lot of early medieval illumination, so learning more about this is being added to my endless list of things I want to learn.

This poem was for Angharat verch Reynulf’s pelican elevation. I knew that I wanted to use a dragon in the pelican pose and thought that using the daffodils to represent Blatha an Oir was a nice touch. This was the first time that I have written this much chrysography – something that I learned with both this and the kingdom scroll I created for the same event is that real 23K gold does not photograph as nicely as painted gold. It tends to catch reflections at odd angles. But it’s shiny in person and that’s what matters.

A closeup of the above so you can see what I mean about how oddly it catches the light when a bad photographer (me) is taking the photo.
